a soul-folk powerhouse of soft, tender babes
who we are
Honey and Soul is what you get when you take a group of soft tender babes and let them take you from quiet, soothing, lullabies all the way to rock and roll. It’s something like unleashing the feminine power in three part harmony while also laughing with your friends about fart jokes. They keep it real, bring the heart, and love each other through the music. Three parts Burlington, VT, two parts Cambridge, MA, Honey and Soul is an indie/folk/soul quintet with Hannah Hausman (she/her) on vocals and guitar, Cleo Flemming (she/her) on vocals and cello, Lexi Ugilow (she/they) on vocals and keys, Logan Beck (he/him) on bass, and Zack Santarsiero (he/him) on drums.
The group formed in 2017 around Hannah’s original music and has been growing and evolving ever since. In 2023, Honey and Soul released their first full length album, called “Lady King,” a body of work compiled around the question of what it means to be vulnerable and why that might be important. Later that year they released a studio single called, “Pleasure,” a reminder that not only is it ok to experience pleasure, but in fact, it is holy. Honey and Soul has a few songs baking in the oven, and look forward to serving them to you as steaming hot delicious song-pies sometime soon.

Honey & Soul in the Press
Seven Days, Vermont
It's one thing to dream up a cool idea — we all have those. I wanted to start a speed metal Grateful Dead cover band called Hateful Shred just to prank some Deadheads at an open mic. Did I do it? No. Why? Because it would take work! (Also, I was assured by an assortment of Deadheads that they would likely enjoy such a spectacle.)
But Burlington folk trio Honey & Soul put in the effort and made their dream a reality. Back in 2019, songwriter and guitarist Hannah Hausman, cellist and bassist Cleo Flemming, and fiddle and banjo player Danica Cunningham spent some time in a yurt, where they decided to write down their biggest dreams as a band.
"We had a big board up on the wall, and we started writing all the things we wanted to achieve together," Cunningham explained as she and her bandmates sat across the table from me at a Burlington bar…
York Calling, UK
With the instrumental makeup of the act, you’d be right to expect folk from Honey & Soul’s sound. Yet, there’s more to it, with elements of classic rock and blues in their sound. What really captured me most about Tower, though, is its lyrics. Rich with substantial emotion and sentiments, its story of empowerment is beautifully realised through metaphor and imagery…
Para Pop, Indonesia
An interesting surprise came earlier this year brought to you by Honey & Soul, a band based out of Vermont bringing harmony music to their latest release entitled “Tower”. A song with honest lyrics conveying the feeling of love becomes a strength as a deep power. Through the song "Tower", there is a very sweet harmony from the slick musical equivalent, the instruments that maintain their smoothness playing cello and violin arrangements which of course bring a comfortable atmosphere accompanying beautiful continuous vocals together conveying strong messages that we may often miss to pay attention to. There's a delicate balance that feels good to Honey & Soul's latest single, and one we'll always be able to appreciate.
